The Behavioral Health Section is offering a $500 scholarship to one deserving North Carolina student in an accredited HIM program. Please see the attached document for additional information.

Scholarship Application

Welcome to NCHIMA – Behavioral Health Section 2009-2010!

This is a major year for the Behavioral Health Section with all the talk about the health care reform, endorsement, accreditation, changes in Community Support services and Residential services, ARRA, electronic health records, and development of the Critical Access Behavior Health Agency (CABHA).

There are a lot of changes that are taking place and it can be overwhelming to stay on top of all the new information. Participation in this section will assist in alleviating the stress and strain of the changes because of – NETWORKING!

We have had the addition of the Rural Health Facility professionals to our organization as Behavioral Health Care is now being provided in these facilities located in the rural areas of North Carolina.

We have held two successful Mid-Year meetings, and have been able to offer our members 15 – 20 CEUs last year and also this year.

The Behavioral Health Section is requesting participation from our members. Volunteering is very important to keeping our section going. This year we would ask that you seriously consider volunteering to run for an office position on the board. It really is a good way to meet other people and does not require a whole lot of time. If you don't feel comfortable being on the board, another way can be offering to help at the meetings or sending information to one of the board members.

We need to come together to educate, support, supply information as it becomes available to us. 2009-2010 is a very important time to become involved and help your fellow HIM professionals.

We are all concerned about our time, economics, jobs, family but this is the year to make changes and get involved if you want to be heard and be part of the change.

Thank you,

Cynthia Allen Coe
