Job Responsibilities: KirbyIMC focuses on the planning, management, and implementation of innovative information technologies in support of health and care. Support for planning and management of information security and privacy is a key service. Current consulting engagements involve work for public health agencies, major academic medical centers, medical practices, health plans, state governments, health IT companies, and non-profit organizations involved in accelerating the adoption of information technologies in support of health and care. Both solo engagements and team engagements with other well-qualified professionals are part of the consultancy's mode of operation.
Mr. Kirby has significant experience with performing information security assessments and risk analyses related to compliance with HIPAA, Red Flags, FISMA, and the emerging HITECH requirements, including security and privacy aspects of the Meaningful Use of EHR program. He provides expert witness support for cases involving information security or privacy in healthcare.

What is a unique or fun fact about you? Still doing marathons. Really, at my age!
What was the most valuable lesson you learned? Recently… Improving health in the US at an affordable cost will require combined environmental, behavioral (social), and professional care changes. No one or two of these factors is enough.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment? Hard to pick one. I take great satisfaction from working on and leading collaborative projects. In the last few years I’ve been a leader in projects that have brought over $30M in grants into NC to support health IT centric work.
What gives someone the competitive edge? Oddly enough… finding ways to encourage people to cooperate.
What is your definition of success? People succeed in their professional lives when they find activities that give them a sense of meaning. For me, that involves working with others to accomplish large tasks.
What goal are you currently working on? Projects to support more involvement of individuals and lay caregivers in supporting health in concert with professional caregivers.The NC TeleHealth Network – a statewide dedicated broadband for health. Almost completed. This year’s winner of the NC Technology Association’s Public Leadership Award.
