The supervisor functions involve oversight and workflow management of all coding of inpatient and outpatient visits/encounters. Assists Department manager in planning, direction, and supervising the coding processing function in the department. This is accomplished by maintaining current knowledge of CPT, ICD and HCPCS guidelines. Ensures that regulatory standards are met and that regulatory guidelines are followed with the correct assignment of CPT, ICD, and HCPCS codes. Works with other departments to provide education of coding guidelines and advice.
Credentialed Medical Records Professional (Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Procedural Coder for Hospitals, Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator).
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, DRG system, and ICD-10-CM/CPT-4 coding procedures to include sequencing for optimal reimbursement gained through formal training/education and substantial working experience.
3 years progressive coding responsibility in Health Information Management to include inpatient and outpatient coding.
Graduate of an accredited college of Health Information Management (2 or 4 year program) as RHIT or RHIA plus supervisory training/education/experience.
