This year CPT did not have the volume of changes that we have seen in the past, however the CPT Editorial Board continued on the path of bundling more procedures.
We will review the following changes and their impact on reimbursement.
- New modifiers for 2018
- New Sections for Cognitive, Psychiatric Collaborative Care and Behavior Health
- New Codes with deletions
- Guideline changes in the E&M section concerning observation

Mary Gregory began her coding career over 20 years ago with Carolinas Medical Center (formerly Charlotte Memorial Hospital) as an inpatient coder and she has not looked back. Mary currently serves as adjunct instructor for the Charlotte Area Health Education Center (AHEC).
Mary’s expertise on inpatient coding and the IPPS/DRG system has helped her to become a much sought after ICD-10 inpatient coder as well as a trainer for major hospital corporations and institutions. Mary completed her Associates degree in Health Information Management at Central Piedmont Community College. She has obtained the following credentials: RHIT, CCS, CDIP, CPC, and CCS‐P. Mary is a Licensed PMCC Instructor and an AHIMA Certified ICD‐10‐CM/PCS Trainer. She is also an active member of AHIMA, NCHIMA and the AAPC.
