This presentation will outline and discuss the key differentiating elements between inpatient and outpatient CDI, utilizing a case study hospital where a very robust outpatient CDI program was implemented to highlight how to develop a road map to organize, plan, develop and implement an highly successful program. Attendees will gain a strong appreciation and understanding of the primary drivers of documentation in the outpatient setting, what skill sets and core competencies are necessary as a proficient outpatient CDI specialists and how best to acquire the core knowledge and skill sets to begin an effective program.

Glenn’s decades of experience working with physicians to improve their understanding of critical points of clinical documentation led him to a deep appreciation of what is necessary and appropriate to accurately and effectively capture the physician’s clinical judgment, medical decision making and thought processes required to best support medical necessity, charge capture and integrity, and communication of patient care reflective of quality cost effective value-based outcomes. He understands the value and benefit of effective clinical documentation in appropriate communication of fully informed coordinated care and the critical role played in the practice of cost effective quality focused outcomes-based healthcare.
